I’m lucky to have gotten the time I did with Grandma. I have so many memories of growing up with her most people never get the chance to have with a great grandparent. One of my favorite times is when I’d graduated and lived with her for about a year. I’m glad she loved the chocolate snowball cookies even if she was making me question my sanity every time I turned and saw more missing from the cooling rack; I still laugh when I think about it a decade later. I loved having tea parties with her as a kid with my Nana (Mary Lynn), and making cakes and treats for those parties likely started my love of baking. We were both creatives and I loved finding new things to make with her.

There are not enough words in the world to say everything there could be to say about her, though she’d probably try to make them to beat us all in Scrabble if she was still here. I’m thankful Grandma was in my life. She was loved, and she’ll be missed.

As a very young boy, mom and dad and our aunts and uncles would have all of us kids together at Lucy’s almost daily and we would have many adventures and loads of fun. All of kids would get packed into a car and driven, by Lucy- an adventure in itself, LOL, and end up at Doreen’s place. I remember auntie Doreen as one of the most caring adults who always took time for us kids and our originations. She was a loving mother and to us the best aunt. I am very happy that I got to be with her once again at her place for her 100th birthday. Doreen will always be remembered as a very important part of my life.

There are so many things I think of when I try to decide what to write about Grandma, and everything that comes to mind brings another memory with it! One of the things I’ll remember most is how creative and talented she was, I have numerous crafts on my walls and shelves from Grandma, and I think of her every time I see them. She was always doing, making, learning, trying something and getting the while family involved somehow! Pottery at the clay hut and her backyard, painting anything – chairs, rocks, pieces of wood, garage doors! Tie-dyeing, decorating cookies with the icing from a tube that dyed our fingers red and green, a twig for a Christmas tree and taking a fish on the train! I’m so grateful that I have all these memories of Grandma and that I got to spend so much time with her, I will always remember and miss her. I will try to keep doing and learning and trying new things, just like she did.
