It is with deep sadness and love that we announce the passing of Peter Arla Horn, known to his family and friends as Arla, at the age of 71. Arla passed away peacefully in the Comfort Care Unit at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, following many years of health challenges. Before welcoming their children, he and Paula were avid squash and racquetball players. As their family grew, he enjoyed golfing and playing hockey with Drew and supporting Ashley’s love of horses. Bill was a remarkably enlivening individual, with a smile that lit up every room. He was a lover of family, music, films, sports, and lifelong learning. Bill engaged with the world straight up and was always a positive, optimistic presence. He was accomplished, in turn, a saxophone player, an Edmonton Fireman (Acting Deputy Fire Chief), a successful university student (PhD), and a dedicated professor at Grant McEwan University. The family of Geneva Berwick is sad to announce her peaceful passing on August 22nd at the age of 99. She was 47 days short of her 100th birthday and, sadly, approximately 3 weeks short of meeting her first Great Grandchild from the date of her passing. Geneva was born to Alma and Harold Nelson and was raised in Clyde. She worked at a hardware store in Clyde for one of her many uncles, where she met local residents and farmers in the area. It is with profound sadness we announce the unexpected passing of Lea (Inkeri) Halinen on Saturday, August 29th, 2026, at the age of 81. Inkeri was born on January 14, 1945, in Outokumpu, Finland. She immigrated to Canada at the age of six with her father, mother, brother, and sister. In 1963, she began studying at the University of Alberta and graduated third in her class with honours from the Faculty of Medicine in 1969. Canadian Materials Engineering Visionary Al was a true innovator, born in Calgary, Alberta, but lived most of his life in Edmonton. He is predeceased by his parents, Julia (Overland), in 1989, and Arthur, in 1991, and beloved family dog Brutus, who no doubt was waiting with his tennis ball for him. Elsie Stocks was born in 1928 as Elsie Walker. Her middle name was Alvena, and she hated it. Her parents were Fred and Martha Walker. She was one of eight siblings—Samuel, Daniel, Herbert, Esther, Alvin, Wilma (Penny) and William. Alvin and William were Elsie and Penny’s twin brothers who both passed away as infants.
