Betty Jane Walker (nee Klinck) passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 24, 2025. She was surrounded by her 4 children: Beth Holland, Jack Walker, Catherine Lewis, and Lorna Walker. She is survived by 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Betty was predeceased by her parents, Ed and Helen Klinck, her husband, Ernie Walker, her 2 sisters, Margaret Ankerman and June Hall, and her second husband, Bill Cary.
Betty was born in Didsbury, AB, in 1927. In the mid-1940s, she travelled to Edmonton to attend the University of Alberta. There she received her teaching certificate. She met Ernie Walker, who received his degree in Agriculture. They were married from 1948 until Ernie’s death in 1983.
Betty and Ernie lived on and managed the Klinck farm, west of Didsbury, where the first 3 children were born. Subsequently, they moved to Red Deer for a brief year, and then to Stettler for 20 years, where their 4th child was born.
In the early 70’s, they moved to Fort Smith, and then Hay River, NWT. In 1973, they moved to Delta, BC, where Betty remained until 2023, when she moved back to Alberta. She married Bill Cary in 1986. Together they lived in both Canmore and Delta, where they explored the Rocky Mountains and the west coast mountains.
Betty was a Junior High and Senior High teacher, and also taught Sunday school and Bible study for many years. She was a longtime supporter of her church, as well as the Salvation Army, Canadian Red Cross, and many other charities.
While living in Delta, BC, Betty enrolled in many courses at the downtown campus of Simon Fraser University. She was a lifelong learner. Betty loved all forms of classical music, including opera, sacred choral music, and symphony. She was an original board member of Vancouver’s “Music In The Morning”, founded by June Goldsmith. Betty loved the mountains and loved to walk. She spent many summers hiking and camping.
A celebration of life will be held on September 20 at 4:00 p.m. in St.Albert United Church.

I am very sorry for your loss. Loosing a mother at any age leaves a big hole in the heart.
Like all who knew her, I have thought a lot about my time together with her these last few days. On Thursday, I sat quietly in the place I last saw and hugged her: the little church in Canmore. Looking back, I fondly remember how she was SO very interested in learning about Grant and my travels and work adventures abroad. I also can still clearly see her sitting in our then Bragg Creek home eager to know what mischief our, then two young, boys were getting into. While there, she insisted on walking up Two Pine Mountain. All five of us had a beautiful trek with her high amongst the trees and wildflowers. Rest in Peace, Aunty Betty. You loved and were loved.

I had the privilege of meeting and spending time with Betty thru Beth while attending concerts at The Rogue here in Vancouver.
Betty was an inspiration with her upbeat positive attitude and vitality.

I was so sad to find your mom’s obituary on my phone. I had lost contact with her and was trying to locate her.
She was my grade 10 teacher in Donalda for a year as well as our CGIT leader. We all loved her! After we both married and had families we continued to be friends.
I know I met some of you when she was in hospital after her encounter with a bear. What a trooper she was despite what happened, saying it wasn’t the bear’s fault- I was in her territory! And then went back to Lake Ohara for her honeymoon with Bill!
