It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear mother, Alvina, in Edmonton, Alberta. Ave was born in 1936 near Fort St. John, B.C., in a horse-drawn sleigh on the way to the hospital.
She is sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Alvina is predeceased by her loving husband, Victor L. Cook (RCMP), in 1989, her parents, Dick and Elsie, her sisters, Marianne and Anita, and her brothers-in-law, Jim B, Jim H, Peter, Rod, and Doug. Ave leaves behind her sons, Glen (Alane), David, and his son Zachary, her sisters, Marcie, Ricci, and Sylvia (Bob), her brothers, Ric and Dave (Vikki), and many nieces and nephews, along with their families.
Alvina was a fun, kindhearted person who enjoyed life and travel. She was someone you could always count on. A mother who raised us with lots of love and encouragement and many delicious meals. Ave also supported many local charities, having a compassion for those in need.
After leaving Edmonton in the early 2000’s, Mom spent many gratifying years in Kelowna, hosting gatherings, playing bridge, enjoying long walks, and golf. “You’ve got to move your bod!” was one of her ‘Ave-isms’.
She had a good, hearty laugh and will be forever missed for her quick wit and dry sense of humour. Even weeks before her passing, we were in constant admiration of her inner strength and determination, still drawing little giggles from her.
We want to express our deep appreciation to the staff at McConnell Place West for their care and support over the last four years. If you wish to make a donation in Alvina’s memory, please consider Capital Care Foundation (McConnell Place West Recreation Therapy program) (www.capitalcarefoundation.net).
A celebration of life with the family will take place at a later date.
