Bonnie Obit Picture

Bonnie Smith passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Westview Health Centre in Stony Plain, on March 19, 2026, at the age of 93. Born in Regina but a long-time resident of Edmonton, she is lovingly remembered by her son Kenneth Smith (Patricia); daughter Colleen Boe (Terry); grandsons Brandon, Colin, and Neil Smith; granddaughter Dr. Dana Boe (Luc); and sister Claire McKay (nee Ward). Predeceased by her parents, William and Marjorie Ward of Regina; husband Eric M. Smith of Edmonton; brother Larry Ward of Calgary, and sister Shirley Brehaut (nee Ward) in Ontario.

Bonnie was blessed with a happy childhood in the simpler times of 1930’s Saskatchewan and was fortunate to be relatively sheltered from the turmoil of World War II. In the early 1950’s, after a short period working as a civilian staffer at the RCMP depot in Regina, she moved to Edmonton, where she met her husband Eric while working at Woodward’s. She subsequently lived a full and active life in Edmonton, including phases as a mom and homemaker in the McQueen district, membership in St. James United Church, a career as a secretary and office manager at architectural firms Dupuis-Tardiff and FSC Groves Hodgson Manasc, and a variety of volunteer work, especially with youth groups.

Bonnie loved and supported her family, friends, and community, but always found time for a rich inner life as a seeker of spiritual truths. She was incredibly open-minded about matters of faith and philosophy, exploring a wide range of religious traditions, insights from psychology and secular humanism, and, towards the end of her life, the emerging nexus between the world of the soul and quantum physics. May she now have the answers she so diligently sought.
