In Loving Memory of Hendrika Alida Chanakos (née Kabel)

March 23, 1947 – June 18, 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Hendrika “Lida” Chanakos on June 18, 2024. Born on March 23, 1947, Lida was a beloved mother, friend, and passionate reader who lived a life filled with joy and beauty.

Lida was a devoted mother to her two sons, Theodore and Jordan, who were the pride and joy of her life. Her sister, Mary predeceased her; the bond she shared with her sister was unbreakable and she held Mary close in her heart. Lida is loved and will be cherished by her family: her son Jordan; her son, Teddy (Sarah) and their children, Liam and Nathan; Peter (Sandy) and their son, Chad; her brother-in-law, Gerry (Mary) and their sons, Jason (Rob) and Michael.

She found solace and happiness in her backyard garden, where she lovingly tended to her flowers. Her passion for reading was a cornerstone of her life; she delighted in losing herself within the pages of a good book, exploring new worlds, and expanding her horizons. Lida also had a fondness for movies and YouTube, finding enjoyment in the stories and content they offered, which provided her with countless hours of entertainment and joy.

Lida had a unique ability to light up any room with her presence. Her warm, welcoming nature made everyone feel at home, and she cherished her friendships deeply, always ready to lend a listening ear or a helping hand.

Honoring Lida’s wishes, there will be no formal service. Instead, the family asks that those who knew and loved Lida take a moment to reflect on the special times shared with her and celebrate her life in their own meaningful ways.

Lida will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her. May she rest in peace among the flowers she so dearly loved and the books that brought her so much joy.
