Lacy James Obit Photo

The family of James Kevin Lacy announce with sadness his peaceful surrender to cancer after an illness of a few months. Jim passed away at age 67 with family and girlfriend of many years, Nicole, by his side at Grey Nuns Community Hospital, in Edmonton, October 29, 2021. Jim maintained his quiet nature and gentle sense of humour throughout his final days.

Jim was predeceased by his father, Wayne Lacy (1991), his brother, David Lacy (2014) and his mother, Helen Lacy (2016).

He is survived and fondly remembered by his loving girlfriend of many years, Nicole Lyonnais, siblings Pat Darling (Robert), Kit LeRoss (Michael), Donald Lacy (Julia), Margaret Baker (Tony), sister-in-law Laurie Lacy, 19 nephews and nieces, and numerous cousins and friends.

Jim was born in Invermere, BC, the eldest of six children in the family.  At  age 7, Jim moved with the family to Chemainus, BC, where he grew up and attended school, graduating from Chemainus Secondary school in 1972. Jim was involved in scouting and air cadets for many years. He worked in both the Chemainus Sawmill and the Crofton Pulp Mill.

Jim moved to Edmonton in the late 1970s, sharing a house with brother, David, until David’s marriage in 1988. Jim worked in warehousing with Fortier Ltd, and then with Quality Sportswear for 28 years, where he met Nicole, the love of his life.

Although ever thoughtful and caring about friends and family, and loving a good chuckle, Jim was happy as an introvert.  He enjoyed long drives for work and pleasure, mainly in western Canada and the Yukon, and frequent walks in his neighborhood. Jim’s favorite hobbies were building, rebuilding, and networking computers, watching and reading extensively in the science fiction genre, and genealogy.  While he lived a quiet life, Jim touched the lives of so many family, friends, and contacts through his work in a very positive and lasting way, and will be dearly missed by all.

In accordance with Jim’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Jim’s ashes will be interred at St. Anthony Cemetery in Edmonton alongside his brother, David.
