Murray DeAlexandra – Gone Fishing

You are here: Obituaries / Murray DeAlexandra – Gone Fishing
May 24, 1952 - July 26, 2023

Murray Clifford DeAlexandra passed away early July 26th, 2023 at the age of 71. He will hold a place in many people’s hearts. As per his wishes, there will be no funeral service. There will be a private Celebration of Life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to one of his favorite charities The Stollery Children’s Hospital https://www.stollerykids.com/donate/ or the Canadian Diabetes Association https://crm2.diabetes.ca/donate

Murray is survived by his loving wife, Judy of 50 years and his 5 sons, Travis (Heather), Jarod (Liz), Jeffrey, Blake (Katie) and Nathan. He cherished all of his five grandchildren, Genevieve, Rhys, Brooke, Emmett and Rhett. His mother, Mildred; his sister, Joyce (Bob); his nephew, Terry (Jodi); and their families will miss him dearly. He was a good father and devoted husband.

He was born in Westlock, Alberta, but lived most of his adult life in the Lesser Slave Lake and Widewater, Alberta area. He met his wife Judy in high school and knew he had found ‘the one’. Murray loved fishing almost as much as his family, with it eventually becoming his work AND hobby. He loved to be “the only boat on the lake today” with his big aluminum fishing vessel and would take anyone willing out with him. He also loved hunting and kept the freezers full of wild game year-round. Murray loved the outdoors, socializing and hosting friends and family.

No words can express our gratitude for the level of care he received at the Lesser Slave Lake Hospital and University of Alberta Hospital the past few weeks. So many doctors, nurses and caregivers did everything they could to make him comfortable while his battle with kidney disease came to an early end.

We are all going to miss Big Murr so much and feel like he was taken too soon but will cherish all the time and memories we had with him. He knew and impacted so many people in the community and our family is so grateful for all of the kind words, love and support from everyone. Please share a good story or any pictures you’d like. He eluded the camera often.
