mom obituary

Nettie Lee Selby was born on May 15, 1938 to Alfred and Nettie Moore, in Rimbey, Alberta. Nettie is survived by her husband of 65 years, Donald Selby; five children, Cynthia (Ron Klimach), Donna, Marcia (Terry Woytovich), Byron (Brenda), and Marian (Dean Salyniuk); and many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Alice Werstuik, Etta Heisler, and Beatrice Kingston.

Nettie was the third youngest of 15 children. Nettie lost her mother to cancer when she was in her mid teens. After her mothers death, she lived with her father, younger brother and sister until she married in 1958. Nettie started to study the bible, together with her husband, Don, in 1969, and as her love for the bible grew, she chose to dedicate her life to her God, Jehovah, and symbolize this by water baptism in April, 1970. At this time, her 5 children were between the ages of 2 and 11. In 2005 she decided to join the regular pioneer ranks with her granddaughter, Darcy. In 2007, she attended pioneer school, a two week bible based course for full time ministers, and was proudly the oldest attendee in her class.

Nettie will be remembered for her deep emotional desire to be a dedicated mother and grandmother to her own children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She also was fondly known as “Auntie Nettie” by her spiritual family and many children in the congregations she belonged to over the years. She cherished all her children and grandchildren, and was willing to sacrifice her time, and everything she owned to help them. One of the scriptures that gave Nettie hope was Jerimiah 29:11, where Jehovah says ‘thoughts of peace, and not of calamity, to give you a future and a hope.’ Nettie’s belief in the future of the earth and the resurrection of the dead is detailed on the web site jw.org. The family would like to thank everyone for their many kindnesses, prayers and sympathies extended during this time. If anyone would like to donate to the charity of Nettie’s choice, please go to donate.jw.org.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 7, 2023 1:00 pm MDT Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses 6212 82 Avenue Edmonton, AB. The service will also be available via Zoom Meeting ID: 780 220 0911 Password: 3434.

These last few years have been the hardest ever, but we know we will see mom again when Jehovah resurrects her, and I’m so grateful that she gave us all a foundation to build our faith on. She truly was a dedicated mother and grandmother. In the meantime, we’ll all hold onto the “future and hope”. A future of a life without pain and grief, and a hope of the resurrection of healthy happy loved ones. – Jeremiah 29:11,12.
