Werner Leybold

Leybold Obit Photo

It is with profound sadness that the family of Werner Leybold announce his passing peacefully in his home, on December 15, 2020 at the age of 80.

He will be dearly missed by his son, Sebastian (Laura), and countless friends and family members around the world.

He is predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years (Christa); and son (Christof).

Werner was born in Germany in 1940 and moved to Southwest Africa in 1956 at the young age of 16, where he accepted a call to help save a family farm that had fallen upon hard times. It was there that he met and married Christa and their two sons were born. The family emigrated to Canada (Edmonton) in 1980, and later settled in St. Albert in 1986. Werner travelled the world throughout his career in the oilfield, gaining the respect of his peers, and effortlessly making friends wherever he went. Always with a joke on hand, he will be fondly remembered as a friend to many, and a devoted and caring husband and father.

“As young as today, we will never come together again. Prost.”

There is no scheduled Memorial Service but a Celebration of his Life will be held at a later date.

Condolences can be sent directly to Sebastian at sleybold@shaw.ca or 780-445-4327

Dear Sebastian and Laura, so sorry; Werner will be sadly missed by all.
I’ll remember him at the backyard firepit having a Guinness with Andy always sharing his latest jokes. Sundays won’t be the same.
Werner will find peace being with Christa again.

    Sebastian and Laura,
We are truly sorry for your loss. I was reminiscing about our first visit up to St Albert so long ago just last Friday. My mind was replaying one of the memories from that time: how your dad had just returned from a work assignment and his calm, quiet way he went about returning into being back in home life.
You both will be in our hearts and minds.
    Yours

    Matt, Maxine and Jamie.

    Dear Sebastian and Family,
I worked with Werner in the Oilfields of Libya in the early 1980’s. Always had fond memories of that wonderful, mild mannered man, and sharing many evenings and stories over those few years.
We always kept in touch and it was an unbelievable tragedy that both he and Larrie Beattie left this Mortal Earth in the same year..
May your dear father Rest in Peace and I hope that he is now reunited with your beloved Mother.
I will remember him with fondness from this day onwards.

    Dear family,
Very sad to hear that Werner has passed away. I worked with Werner from our Houston office doing oilfield inspections worldwide. I very much injoyed working with him, we shared our sence of humor and the additude to do a professional job. Between us we spoke German and Afrikaans and had a lot of fun. He was a wise man with a lot of life experience as a worldcitizen and with his technical experince. May he rest in peace.

    Dear Sebastian and Laura
Our hearts go out to you at this time.
Uncle Werner was truly an incredible man.
We always enjoyed visiting with him.
I will never forget the great kindness shown to me back in 1998 when I came and stayed with you and your family for a holiday.
You, your Dad and Mom made me feel so welcome and went out of your way to give me many fantastic experiences. Thank you.
    All our love.
Jonathan, Ronèl, Zoë and Ilsa Haller
