Xana Uppal

December 2, 1959 - September 13, 2020
Uppal Obit Photo
Xana was a shining star in our lives. She was born in Edmonton and had spent most of her life in Vancouver then came back to Edmonton in 2013.
Xana loved her family fiercely. She was strong and loyal. She was the last of the Dwornyk’s with Peter, Gabriel, Michell and their mother Anna leaving before her.
Xana loved animals as much as she did people. She was a regular volunteer at any of the local shelters close to where she lived. If there was an Owl sanctuary around she would definitely be involved with that.
Xana had a playful heart. She loved to travel, go mountain biking and enjoy the great outdoors anyway she could. She was a dancing Queen who could dance like no other, she filled a room with her brilliant smile and laughter.
She was  a nurse by trade and worked many years at Riverview Hospital in Coquitlam. She was always an advocate for those that could not speak for themselves.
She has left her nephews: Jeremy and Michael, many cousins and friends behind and will be missed by all those that she ever met.
May you continue to shine for us Xana.
Rest In Peace dearest loved one.
Cremation has taken place at Capital City Cremation in Edmonton, Alberta.

Xana had a beautiful soul whose spirit spoke volumes. She was always thoughtful and enjoyed an adventure, especially if it had to do with nature – a major love in her life. I had the joy of sharing some of those with her.
She was a wonderful colleague and friend. I will miss her.
May her soul rest in peace.
My condolences to Jeremy, wife and family. It is so great she was at your beautiful wedding. She had sent a photo.

It’s so sad to hear of Xana’s passing. She was a kind soul and a good friend. this news comes quite a while after her passing. If there is anyone who can help answer some questions, it would very helpful to find closure with that.

    Rest In Peace Xana.

Our deepest condolences to the family, Xana was a wonderful person. We were fortunate to have her in our lives. She was a dedicated family member to the whole extended family while she was married to Nick. Mom and papaji are also deeply saddened by Xana’s passing. Memories of her will live on in our family.

This is very sad news. Condolences to the family. I worked with Xana at Riverview and then we both went to Forensics. We became quick friends but unfortunately I lost touch with her over the years when she left Forensics. I always remembered her for being such a nice, kind and caring friend and I really missed that friendship and thought of her often. Rest In Peace my friend.

My condolences to the family. And to all the people that knew her. I am Bill Downs cousin. I read about Xana here and from Bill and although I did not know her. She certainly would be someone that I would love to call a friend just by everything all of you have written about Xana. Maybe one day we will meet. Rest in Peace Xana.

So shocked to hear about Xana’s passing.
I was a colleague of her’s at Riverview Hospital back in the 1990’s. She truly was a kindred spirit who had great compassion,
a beautiful heart and a playful personality.
She treated patients and staff with great respect and she did shine when she was
among a crowd. Her light will be missed in this world but will continue with all those she touched.
My deepest condolences to her family and friends.

I believe that I may have been a classmate of Xana’s in Grade 9 at Saint Cecelia Jr. Highschool in Edmonton. She was a wonderful, poised and intelligent person, clearly memorable after almost 50 years has gone past. My sincere condolences to the Dwornyk and Uppal families.

I met Xana in grade 5 at St. Matthew’s school & she & I got along great & we had a lot of fun together! And thru junior high school at St. Cecilia’s too. I kind of lost track of her after about 1980 unfortunately, I knew her family too & am so sorry to hear they all passed so young?
RIP Xana & all your family, your friend, Barb Logan

I forgot to mention that I had to ask her in grade 5 how to say her name as I had never heard it before & she patiently taught me when we were little kids that it was Xena, I worked on it & got it right she confirmed for me, she really was a beautiful kid, her hair her eyes were amazing too…
