Dale was born on December 26, 1954, to Ivan and Alma Stav, and grew up in a close-knit family alongside his siblings: Alva (Bob) Hanewhich, Neena (Doug) Moskalyk, Corrie (Ken) Lewis, and Kevin (Debi) Stav.
